What do broadcasts cost?

There are two separate costs:

  1. Your KiliChat plan, which you pay to Digital Tamila. See Account and billing.
  2. Meta's message charges, which Meta bills to your business directly, on the payment method in your Meta (Facebook) Business account. KiliChat doesn't add anything on top of Meta's charges, and doesn't limit how many messages you send.

How does Meta charge?

Meta charges for template messages that are delivered. The price depends on:

  • the template's category: marketing usually costs the most, then utility and authentication; and
  • the country of the person you're messaging (for example, India has its own rates).

Meta publishes its current rates on its WhatsApp pricing page, and changes them from time to time, so we don't list prices here.

Which messages are free?

  • Replies within 24 hours. Normal messages (not templates) your team, flows or automatic replies send while the customer's 24-hour window is open.
  • Utility templates inside the 24-hour window. A utility template sent to someone who wrote to you in the last 24 hours.
  • Failed messages. Messages that weren't delivered, including those Meta held back to protect people from too much marketing (131049).
  • Skipped people. KiliChat never sent anything to them.

A Regular message broadcast goes only to people inside their 24-hour window, so it's free.

How do I estimate a broadcast's cost?

Multiply the number of people it reaches (shown at the bottom of the new broadcast window) by Meta's rate for that template's category and country. The real cost is usually a bit lower because some messages won't be delivered.

For example, a marketing broadcast that reaches 2,000 Indian numbers costs about 2,000 × Meta's Indian marketing rate.

Where can I see what I've been charged?

  • In KiliChat: admins can open Usage in the left sidebar. It shows, for each number and month, how many messages Meta charged for by category, how many were free, and an Est. Meta cost once rates are entered there. See Account and billing.
  • In Meta: your exact bill is in Meta Business Settings, under billing for your WhatsApp account.

Do test messages cost money?

A test from Send yourself a test is a real template message, so Meta charges for it like any other delivered template, unless your 24-hour window with that number is open and it's a utility template.

Why is my Meta bill higher than I expected?

  • Marketing templates cost more than utility ones. Check the category of the templates you send.
  • Messages to other countries can cost more.
  • Sequences, flows and the API also send templates, and each delivered one is charged.
  • Meta may have changed a template's category from utility to marketing during review.
