Headers: text, image, video, document and location

A header sits at the top of a template, above the message. It's optional. In the editor, choose it in the Header box:

HeaderWhat the customer seesGood for
NoneJust the messageMost updates
TextA bold line, up to 60 characters"Order received", "Appointment confirmed"
ImageA photo (JPG or PNG)Offers, new products, festival greetings
VideoA playable video (MP4)Property tours, product demos
DocumentA PDF they can openInvoices, reports, itineraries, price lists
LocationA map pin with a place name and address"Here's where to find us"

A template can have only one header.

How do I add an image, video or document header?

  1. In the template editor, set Header to Image, Video or Document.
  2. Click Upload a JPG or PNG, Upload an MP4 video or Upload a PDF.
  3. Pick the file from your computer. The preview updates.
  4. Save the draft and submit as usual.

Files can be up to 16 MB. WhatsApp's own limits are smaller for some types (for example, about 5 MB for images), so keep files small.

Do I have to send the same picture every time?

No. The file you upload in the editor is the example Meta's reviewers see. After approval, you can use a different file each time:

  • For one broadcast: in the new broadcast window, upload another file in the Header image (or video, document) box. Leave it as it is to use the template's own file.
  • For everything else (sequences, the inbox, the API): click Sending values on the approved template and upload the file to use from now on. See Sending values.

TIP

Keep the new file similar in spirit to the reviewed one. Meta approved a template with, say, a product photo; swapping in something very different may cause problems later.

How do I add a location header?

  1. Set Header to Location.
  2. Type the Latitude and Longitude, for example 13.0827 and 80.2707.
  3. Type the Place name and Address.

To find the numbers: in Google Maps, right-click your place and click the numbers at the top of the menu to copy them. The first number is the latitude, the second the longitude.

You can change the map position later with Sending values on the approved template.

WARNING

Location-header templates made in Meta's WhatsApp Manager can't be brought in with Sync from Meta, because Meta doesn't store the place with the template. Create them in KiliChat instead.

Why does the editor say "Upload header images, videos and documents here first"?

Media headers must be uploaded through KiliChat's own upload button. Pasting a link from another website doesn't work, because KiliChat has to send the actual file to Meta for review.

Why does it say "An example file is missing. Upload it again." when I submit?

The file uploaded for the header can't be found any more. Click Edit on the draft, remove the file with the ✕, upload it again, save and submit.
